Presented by Michael D. Klemm, Attorney at Law
Join us to learn now recent changes to Minnesota Statutes can impact real estate professionals who may now have to register and report as lobbyists, with significant civil and criminal penalties for noncompliance.
- Effective June 1, 2025, Minnesota expanded lobbying disclosure requirements to cover attempts to influence official action of any political subdivision statewide (not just state government and certain metro units).
- The state defines “Lobbyist” to generally include anyone paid more than $3,000 in a year (from all sources) to influence legislative/administrative action or official action of a political subdivision by communicating with public or local officials.
- Key restrictions include a prohibition on contingent-fee lobbying arrangements (e.g., commissions paid at closing) and a ban on gifts to governmental officials.
This seminar explains the requirements, how they apply to real estate professionals, and practical compliance recommendations.
